Furnas County 4-H festival a hit
Rodeo roping was a very popular activity during the Furnas County 4-H Carnival on Saturday night. Carnival goers also enjoyed many other fun activities such as ring toss, bean bag toss, nerf shooting, cake walk along with homemade ice cream. King and queen for the event were Trenton Roskop of Arapahoe and Taylor Sayer of Cambridge.
Board hears proposals to expand, remodel Arapahoe school facility

The highlight of the meeting was the presentation by Grant Craeger presenting two different sets of plans for proposed construction and remodel to the school. The first option included the addition of four new locker rooms, a new shop and two new classrooms with a total of 8,700 square feet. The first option also included an addition that would serve as a connection corridor, kitchen and commons area along with a concession stand, meeting/work room and administration offices with a total of 15,300 square feet. Preliminary estimate and project costs ranged from $5,984,220 to $11,267,074 depending on whether this option was divided or included both projects of option one.
Option two included parts of option one as well as the expansion of some of the parts of option one along with the addition fine arts auditorium which would seat 305. This option would include the addition of 31,150 square feet that would include the addition of classrooms, a connection corridor, kitchen and commons area, concessions, meeting/work room and administration offices. Depending on the individual parts of option two, preliminary estimate of project costs range from $4,664,378 to $16,324,592.
The board spent considerable time reviewing and discussing the plans and expense. Craeger asked the board for their input and ideas and will return at a future date to continue this discussion.
Elementary principal Braithwait reported on the following items:
•All aides have been evaluated.
•The K-4 Spring music concert was held earlier in the evening.
•The fifth through eighth grade music contest will take place on April 18th.
•Most of the elementary classes will have their field trips this month.
•He will be attending an AqQuest meeting April 27 and 28 in Kearney.
